You catch 9842 more often than chance allows: a timestamp and a page number. The 9 brings completion and the 8 brings power, and most of what this number asks of you sits where those two meet. Five is freedom, so look at what you have been holding still that wants to move.
What 9842 means
The 5 is change: movement, freedom, the lesson that arrives through experience, not through planning. When a number reduces to 5, a routine has likely done what it came to do, and something in you already knows it's time for a different shape.
Inside 9842, the 9 carries the closing of a chapter so a cleaner one can open. The 8 adds the honest use of strength and the results that follow it. The 4 brings the unglamorous work that decides whether something lasts.
The working, shown
9 + 8 + 4 + 2 = 23, and 2 + 3 = 5.
Every number in this system is read the same honest way: add the digits, reduce, and check whether a master number (11, 22 or 33) is trying to hold its full shape along the way.
Why you keep seeing it
Sightings cluster around a live theme, and this one is no exception. Something has finished teaching what it came to teach, and the number keeps appearing because you have not let it end. The lead digit is the 9, and it frames what follows: a chapter closing so a cleaner one can open.
What to do when you see it
Your assignment when 9842 shows up
Loosen the grip on one thing that finished teaching you, and let it go with dignity. The 9 in the number asks you this. What is finished in your life that you haven't fully let go of? Give it one real hour, and let the rest of the week stay as it is.

Is 9842 a good sign?
It is a message about attention, and it says nothing final about your future. A number can point at a beginning, a warning, or a closing chapter, and none of those are automatically good or bad. What matters is what you do with the pattern it names.
Does seeing 9842 mean my wish will come true?
Not quite. The sighting is not a yes machine. It is a mirror, and what it reflects is what you were wanting when you caught it. That wants an action, and it won't wait.
Is 9842 connected to my Life Path number?
Only in the loosest sense. Angel number sightings speak to attention, timing and theme. Your core numbers are a different layer entirely, the architecture, and reading them together is where the picture gets useful.
