The name calculator
How the name becomes numbers
Every letter carries a value, A is 1 through I is 9, then the cycle repeats: J is 1, K is 2, and so on to Z is 8. This is the Pythagorean table, the same one Pythagoras taught and the one used in every profile I write. The full name gives the Expression. The vowels only give the Soul Urge. The consonants only give the Personality.
One fixed rule that most calculators get quietly wrong: Y is always a consonant here, value 7, in every name, even when it sounds like a vowel. Fixed transparent rules are the point. The same name must always give the same numbers, or the reading means nothing.
Which name should you use?
The name you were given at birth describes the vehicle you arrived in. The name you use now, a married name, a stage name, a chosen name, describes the road you are on. Neither is wrong. In a full profile both are read, and the distance between them is often the most interesting part.
What the three numbers mean together
Alone, each number is a description. Against each other, they are a finding. The distance between the face you show (Personality) and the thing you want (Soul Urge) is usually the exact distance between where you are and the next version of your life. The Expression tells you what you are working with while you close that gap.
