The one real difference: the letter table
Numerology assigns every letter a value from 1 to 9. Pythagorean does it in order: A is 1, B is 2, and so on to I is 9, then the cycle restarts at J. Chaldean assigns by sound instead: letters that vibrate together share a value, which pushes H and X to 5 on the 1-to-8 table and leaves the number 9, held sacred, unassigned to any ordinary letter.
Same name, different tables, different numbers. That is the whole dispute. Everything else, Life Paths from dates, cycles, pinnacles, is calculated the same way in both systems, because dates do not care about letter tables.
What each system claims
Chaldean is older and argues from vibration: a name's sound is its essence, so the table should follow the mouth, not the alphabet. Pythagorean argues from structure: a fixed, transparent, reproducible table where the same name always gives the same numbers, which is what makes verification possible at all.
Why this system is Pythagorean
Because reproducibility is non-negotiable. Every Life Path here is calculated by two independent methods and both are shown. The full working sits next to every number in every profile, so you can check the arithmetic yourself. A sound-based table invites the reader's ear to decide, and the reader's ear is exactly what a reading should not depend on.
The same principle governs the two conventions that trip most people up here: Y is always a consonant with value 7, in every name, even where it sounds like a vowel, and master numbers 11, 22 and 33 are never reduced. Other conventions exist. They are not wrong, they are different. What matters is that the rules are fixed, stated, and applied the same way every time, so the chart means the same thing to you at 25 and at 75.
So which one should you use?
The honest answer: the one you will read consistently, because numerology read consistently is a mirror, and numerology read sporadically is a slot machine. If your numbers were calculated somewhere with the Chaldean table, they are not wrong, they are speaking a different language, and mixing tables halfway through is how people end up with charts that mean nothing.
Everything on this site, the calculator, the journal, every profile, uses Pythagorean with fixed rules, and says so in the profile itself.
